Types Of Toasters

Modern toasters are generally 1 of 3 types: pop-up, toaster ovens or conveyor. Here is a quick overview of each one.

Pop-up are sometimes referred to as 'automatic'. These are the most prevelant in Europe. You insert the bread vertically from the top and then push a small lever down located on the side. An internal device determines how long to toast the bread for, when completed the toaster automatically pops the toast up.

Toaster ovens are small electric ovens, they have a door on the side and a tray inside which you the lay the bread on horizontally. When complete the door remains closed but the toaster turns off, you have to get the bread out yourself. They are generally larger then your normal pop-up, however with toaster ovens you can put toppings on the bread (like cheese) beforehand.

Conveyor toasters make many slices of bread and are normally used in the catering industry (like the one in the TV program by Victoria Wood, 'Dinnerladies'). However these devices can sometimes be used on the home, but it is rare.
