History Of The Toaster
For hundreds of years toast has been made by hanging a piece of sliced bread over a hot fire using a fork and holding it for a couple of minutes. Then the electric toaster was invented, however it is unknown who invented it.
In 1893, A British company made an electric toasting appliance, it was named the 'Eclipse', however it was a commercial failure and very little information is known about it. 1909 was when the first patents were granted and the toasters went on to be commercial successes.
The automatic toaster was patented in 1921 and the first one was released in 1925, it was called the Toastmaster. Toasters produced between the late 1930's and 1960 are considered to be of the highest standard in both workmanship and quality, many were built to a standard sufficient for them to last for several decades.
Several high-tech toasters have been created in recent times including The Internet Toaster which could be controlled from the net!
